Easy Rustic Apple Crostata
Pies are great but crostatas are better. Easy, rustic, no-need-to-be-perfect and taste the same!
It’s apple season and this recipe is a great way to use them up as a delicious dessert or breakfast.
I left the skin on my apples to not only save time but it also keeps all the beneficial fiber! I have two apple trees in my yard that are heavy with fruit and I will happily make as many crostatas as I can!!

Rustic Apple Crostata

- 1 Each Homemade or store bought pie crust
- 3 Each Apples cored and sliced (peeling optional)
- 3 Tbsp Coconut sugar or brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp Cornstarch
- 1/2 Each Juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1 Tsp Cinnamon
- 1/4 Tsp Nutmeg
- 1 Pinch Salt
- 1 Each Egg lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet and roll out dough to about 1/8 in thick.
- In a large bowl combine apples, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Toss together to mix.
- Pour apple mixture onto the pie dough leaving about 2 inches around the edge. Fold over the edges overlapping the crust.
- Brush the crust with the beaten egg.
- Bake at 400 for about 40-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Top with your favorite toppings, I used pomegranate seeds and whipped cream.
