Snacktime! Pair your Carbs with a Protein/Healthy Fat
This is one of the simplest ways you can avoid a blood sugar spike/crash and help yourself feel full and satisfied until your next meal.
Eating carbs by themselves can cause a quick spike in blood sugars and then a quick dip after. This can leave you feeling zapped of energy, cranky and still hungry. Protein and fat take longer to be digested and slows down the absorption of carbohydrates into the blood stream.
I keep this in mind for my own snacks but especially when packing snacks for my kiddos. The last thing I need (or their teachers!) is an energy crash from my three boys.
Here are a few of my favorite carb/protein/fat combinations:

- Grapes and nuts
- Cantaloupe and cottage cheese
- Tortilla chips and guacamole
- Cheese and crackers
- Pretzels and nut butter
