June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

Eating “brain foods” can improve your mental health, prevent cognitive decline and decrease your changes of neurological problems. My two favorite brain-boosting foods that I eat almost daily are blueberries and walnuts.

Walnuts contain ALA, an essential omega-3 fatty acid and other polyphenols that act as antioxidants. Studies have shown that eating 1-2oz per day can reduce oxidative stress by decreasing free radical levels and boosting antioxidant defense.

Blueberries are rich in flavonoids that may lower your risk for dementia. They get their beautiful color from anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant that can reduce inflammation throughout the body, particularly in the brain.

Stock up on blueberries and walnuts on your next market trip.
